The ‘Forrest Gump’ of the Speakers Corner Dawah teams convicted under the Terrorism Act
A man who regularly attended and filmed at Speakers Corner has been convicted under the Terrorism Act for four charges of disseminating terrorist material and one of possessing articles useful for terrorism.
Mohammed Abdul Ahad, 38, of Euston, London, has for over a year, been on trial at the Old Bailey. The terrorist sympathizer is now facing a significant jail sentence for spreading the hate speeches of the convicted Islamist preacher and notorious terror recruiter Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal.
The published speeches glorified terrorist organisations including ISIS and Al-Qaeda and encouraged listeners to commit or prepare for acts of terrorism.
Matthew Brook, barrister for the prosecution, stated that the published speeches amounted to terrorist publications as they praised terrorist organisations such as ISIS and encouraged listeners to support those terrorist organisations and encouraged both terrorist action and violent jihad. They encouraged others to commit or prepare acts of terrorism. The videos stated that it is compulsory for ‘true Muslims’ to participate in jihad and kill non-believers, so they could “take their place in hell”. They also spoke of children as young as 12 making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The judge had previously warned the jury that some of the material they would see would be “offensive to all-right minded people of any faith”.
Not only did Ahad publish the videos on his website ‘Authentic Tauheed’, he transcribed the videos sending the transcriptions via email to his followers.
During the case, Ahad was released on bail. The terms of his bail being a daily curfew between 11pm and 5am, reporting to Islington Police station every Saturday and not using the internet other than contacting his immediate family via WhatsApp. This latter bail condition appears to have been continually broken without consequence, as Ahad has continued to post videos including of himself to his YouTube channel “Speakers Corner Brother”.
